WOMEN IN NUMBERS: More Than $32 BillionOK, so we all love to snack, whether it’s while watching our favorite shows, while on a hike or while waiting in line at the DMV. But if you’re one woman who is opting for healthier snacks these days, you’re not alone. Growing awareness about healthy snacks and the increased availability of wholesome grab-and-go options are propelling that market to new heights. According to a new report from Grand View Research, the healthy-snack market will be worth more than $32 billion by 2025, with the nuts-and-seeds and dried-fruit segments expected to account for more than 27 percent of global market share.
WOMAN TO WATCH: Poorvi Patodia, Founder and CEO of Biena SnacksToday, we’re highlighting one woman who started a small company with a big mission and is changing the way Americans snack, for the better. As a pioneer in the snack industry, Poorvi has received lots of acclaim. Her snacks are award-winning, and rightfully so. For instance, Prevention magazine selected Biena’s honey-roasted chickpeas for its Cleanest Packaged Foods awards list in 2016, and Cooking Light and Shape Magazine both noted Biena’s fiery habanero chickpeas were winners in the taste-test category. And in addition to being on the healthy and tasty sides of the snack spectrum, Biena’s chickpeas are also all-natural, contain no GMOs and are made from scratch in the United States.
Since Poorvi launched her delicious enterprise, the company has sold more than a billion chickpeas, which, I’m sure, were rapidly consumed. Indeed, Biena has become one of the fastest-growing snack brands in the country, with products available in more than 15,000 stores nationwide. Poorvi’s biz has grown by more than 800 percent in the past three years, and is likely to at least double its revenue in 2017. Not too shabby for a gal who was simply craving a more flavorful way to snack healthy!
