- Don't procrastinate!
Don’t let your age stop you from pursuing your dreams. If you have a great idea – the time is now! If you always think of your dreams in terms of “someday,” they will always be just that, dreams. If you have an idea for a product or business, get started on it before someone else does!
2. Be confident in yourself.
Society tells us that we have to go through college, years of interning and entry level jobs to get to the top – but that is not always true and is not an option for everyone. Age is not the only thing that makes you wise, we live in a world where any information we can possibly imagine is available at our fingertips, no matter our age or background. Use the internet and technology to your advantage and educate yourself. Knowing you have done your research and understand your goals will help you feel more confident in your ability to succeed.
3. Stay focused and don't lose sight
Starting a business is difficult at any age and must truly be a passion project. It is 100% normal to feel doubt or discouragement (in fact, it would be weird if you never had a moment like that.) Write your “why” on a piece of paper and hang it where you are often. When you start to get stressed out or discouraged by small setbacks and challenges, look to your note to self as a reminder to keep going. This is a simple tip, but perhaps one of the most important.
4. Use your youth as an advantage
Whether you are fresh out of high school or early on in your entrepreneurial efforts, don’t let your lack of experience be a hurdle. People who have been in one industry for a while before starting a business often focus only on the experience they have as a way to shape their entire business and are always following someone else’s model of success. Use your clean slate to your advantage and don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Think outside of the box to create a product or business that is truly unique.
5. Be TRUE to YOU
Young entrepreneurs succeed, even with lack of experience, because of their passion and strong sense of self. You must be passionate about the business you are building as it is often tiring and truly ‘round the clock work. Never compromise yourself or your vision on your journey, no matter how tempting it may be at times. Surrounding yourself with people who know the real you and want to see you succeed is a great way to ensure you remain true to yourself.
